This bell-tone keywind music box, ca. 1835, is a fine example from Swiss maker, DuCommon Girod. Six tunes on the 11" cylinder include a waltz, polka, march, and others, all played clearly and cleanly. Complete with the original tune card, the box (serial number 27791) is clearly identified on its brass bedplate along with its maker's stamp. Complete with original "French Key" and all latches (on the left end and front for the lid). The case is typical of the early boxes with its nice, "rosewood" color and without inlay or banding. A nice, rich royal red "dust cover" (not shown), protects the mechanism from dusts and pin damage while allowing the beautiful tunes to fill the room with its subtle bell-like music. This box was produced near the beginning of the cylinder music box era, long before "quality" was lost through "mass production". As an early cylinder music box, this one is clearly a "winner".
