In forty years as Cooleys Olde Tyme Piano Shoppe, Inc., we have never offered an Item like 311. Suddenly, out of a large private estate in the Boston, MA. area, we obtained this wonderful, clean piece, complete with antique, three-spring, porcelain-face clock.
The Skinner Auction Gallery in Boston officially identifies this piece as "A Viennese Scenic Painted Musical Wall Clock", produced by Miller & Son in the mid-to-later 19th century, with a three-train repeating clock movement, set into giltwood rocaille frame, inset with a Swiss landscape painting on meadow of cows, watering in a stream near a mountain village, set to the left-bottom corner with a single-barrel musical box with pull start, playing two tunes".
The middle top of the piece is highlighted by a beautiful, large porcelain- face antique clock that runs perfectly. The musical box in the picture base is of very high quality with numerous, extremely close tines. The musical box and it's pins are in perfect, restored condition; the arrangements are full and elaborate. This is not a tiny musical box as used in an antique musical chair. A wire suggests the musical box is activated by the clock, perhaps every hour on the hour.
The frame measures 31" X 32." The inset painting (on metal sheeting) measures 23" X 17" and is in "like new" condition, i.e., no paint chips or imperfections. This one has received a lot of "tender loving care" over its 125 years of existence.
