Large orchestrions like this inventory addition are fast disappearing
from Europe into worldwide collections. We found this one during a
buying trip to Germany.
The Badenia 2 is shown in Bowers Encyclopedia on page 476. It is 9 feet
high (only 8 feet high without the gallery), five feet wide and a little
over 3 feet deep. This orchestrion is loaded with instrumentation
including piano, xylophone, violin pipes, bells, snare and bass drums,
cymbal etc.
The beautiful painting in the center-top of the orchestrion has a "flowing fountain" scene, giving the instrument a very European flavor. Two hot-air balloons cross the blue sky from right-to-left while an airship slowly moves from left-to-right. The effects are astounding.
There are 7 huge, multi-tune rolls (9-12 tunes each) with the instrument and more are readily available in Europe. (The Imhof rolls are produced on thick, almost indestructible paper so all have survived. Four large 9-tune roll cassettes were recently filled with new recut music from Belgium. There are now hours of orignal music for this rare, beautiful instrument.
Full restoration by experts will be completed by 1/06.
Our price on this instrument is MUCH lower than several other Badenia
Orchestrions for sale around the world.
This wonderful orchestrion will be available in March 2006 so let us
know of your interest early.
